Ella – one of our church members – has spent the last year fundraising in order to spend a year in Malawi with the gap year charity, Project Trust. A big thank you to everyone who helped her along the way.

Ella flew out to Malawi (via Kenya) at the end of August and has already spent a month or so getting used to Africa. She is living with three other girls in a very rural village. They have no electricity, no running water and the toilet is a hole in the ground. They do their cooking on two gas rings on top of Calor gas bottles, so her Girl Guide training is being put to very good use!

Ella is able to travel to Blantyre (about 10km away) at weekends and enjoy the luxury of a shower, electricity and access to the internet.

Here is a quote from her Facebook page:

“I have Internet! Only for the weekend, but its enough. I have been living in Malawi for 2 weeks now and it’s great. I’m having a lovely time at my project a feeding centre in a rural village; the kids are very sweet and a bit cheeky! The work’s been hard and tiring and the lack of electricity has lead to some early nights (6 o’clock was the worst). The long drop toilet has been interesting . . . but I’ll get used to ¡t.”
