2011-07-29: Kolkata Daily Digest

  • 09.00 Here we go. We are a team from @favbap in Kolkata for two weeks visiting our friends and @BMSWorldMission partners. Day 6. #
  • Today we’re off to Kolkata City Mission, and seeing something of the work they do. #
  • The dead gecko in our bathroom has been completely removed by the ants. The gecko in the girls’ room is still alive and well. #
  • Sorry for the lack of updates. Visiting a slum area. Difficult to tweet. More later. #
  • 13.45 Lunch break at Kolkata City Mission HQ in the Dum Dum area. This morning we visited a Dalit slum near Bidhannagar . . . #
  • . . . and the only tribal slum in Kolkata near the airport. Both have KCM schools and growing worshipping congregations. #
  • This afternoon we hope to visit more KCM projects. #
  • 14.20 Pastor Amos is giving us a presentation on the work of Kolkata City Mission. #
  • Shaji and Prasanta have inspired us with the vision of Kolkata City Mission. We’re now enjoying chai before we move on. #
  • 16.45 We’ve travelled to another slum area. Playing ‘carry’ – a board game with counters to flick – with local youngsters. #
  • 17.30 More singing (Shine is going down very well) and another story aimed at the young people this time. #
  • Earlier on the children in the other slums heard the Parable of the Lost Giacomo (with Sam’s help). #
  • Debbie is already on the phone to Social Services. #
  • 18.00 Heading back to BMS for evening meal. Pray for the work of Kolkata City Mission, and it’s vision for the future. #
  • 20.00 Emily is leading Team Time tonight. #
  • 21.40 Wow! Team Time over. Did that get a bit theological or what? Jesus came not for the righteous but for sinners. #
  • It’s been the hottest and most humid day so far. And we have a new little gecko come to see us in our room. That’s all for today. #
