2011-08-03: Kolkata Daily Digest

  • 07.00 What a very grey morning. Think it has rained a little in the night. Anyway, we’re up and raring to go. #
  • Day 11 of the @favbap Kolkata Team’s visit. Today we see some more of the work of Good News Children’s Education Mission. #
  • 08.00 Waiting for the GNCEM bus again. We won’t be staying long at Hatibagan though, as we will be whisked off. #
  • 09.00 Today we have stayed on the bus, said goodbye to the children and are being taken to visit another GNCEM project. #
  • 10.00 Connection a bit intermittent today. We’ve been around the Daspara school and now are on our way again. #
  • We will return to Daspara later, and I’ve been invited to preach at the 6pm worship service. #
  • 11.00 We’ve arrived at Gobindapur Girls’ Hostel. Classes are finishing and we’ll be meeting the children soon. #
  • 13.10 We’ve sung and told stories to the children, heard the story of GNCEM from Pastor Subir, and had a wonderful lunch. #
  • Now we’ve been shown to rooms – one for the men, one for the ladies, and one for me as Pastor – for a rest. #
  • Later, the girls who board here will be presenting a programme for us, then we will be getting in the bus again to go and see the boys. #
  • OK so I’m not resting, I’m tweeting. I wish I had my NIV with me. Working from the ESV is good but not the same – I’m not used to it! #
  • 14.00 Rest time over.  #
  • 15.15 We’ve been royally entertained with accomplished and amazing dancing by the girls of Gobindapur. Now we’re going to the boys’ hostel. #
  • 16.15 We’ve left the boys’ hostel after more singing and stories and we’re now off to the boys’ day school. #
  • 17.10 Again, a good time sharing with the boys at Mahinagar. Back on the bus to Daspara now for the service at 6 o’clock. #
  • 18.45 Just finished preaching at the church meeting at Daspara. The service is continuing. #
  • 19.15 Service over. Refreshments now then return journey. #
  • 20.00 In fact it was more than refreshments. We were fed again! Such hospitality! Now on our way back to BMS. #
  • The service ended with passionate corporate prayer – everyone praying together at once for 15 minutes. Very powerful. #
  • We ask you to pray again for GNCEM, for Subir and Eunok and all who work with them in the schools and hostels. #
  • The team tell me that Subir and I made a great double act preaching. I had to take my glasses off to read the Bible . . . #
  • . . . and he had to put his on! (And he had borrowed a pair after leaving his at the girls’ hostel earlier) #
  • 20.50 We have been dropped off at BMS by the bus we first boarded nearly 13 hours ago. It’s been a long day. #
  • 21.40 Potentially another long day tomorrow, so after a spot of housekeeping and a shower, it’s almost time to say goodnight. #
