2011-08-04: Kolkata Daily Digest

by Kolkata Team on 4th August 2011
  • 07.15 (in a Geordie accent) Day 12 in the BMS House. Sam has been doing his washing. #
  • Today the Teammates have another task. They will be observing Big Life Ministries on one of their evangelistic visits. #
  • They don’t know where they are going but have been told to be ready at 9am. #
  • 08.00 Good morning! Apologies for the previous silly announcements. However, we are looking forward to a trip with Big Life today. #
  • 09.40 Spent half an hour worshipping and praying with BMS staff at morning devotions. Will be setting off soon (ish). #
  • 10.00 A bit later than planned, we’re off! #
  • 12.35 We actually left at 10.20 and have finished the first part of our journey. #
  • We’re a bit of 3G range and getting more remote so tweets are unlikely. We’re getting on the boat in a few minutes. #
  • 12.55 Just eating our packed lunches while they sort out the boat. #
  • 13.25 Still waiting for a boat. The new one needs some attention so Pastor Benjamin is trying to arrange a replacement. #
  • 13.55 Very hard to describe where I’m standing. On a sea wall made of mud trying to help manoeuvre the Big Life boat alongside. #
  • The mud appears to be cracking under our feet and the tide is coming in. Meanwhile the boat is stuck. #
  • 14.15 We’ve made it onto the boat via a smaller boat. On our way to a village where Big Life haven’t worked before. #
  • 14.35 Passing island villages, one after another, and waving from the boat. #
  • Signal is fading. I’ll keep tweeting as long as can. #
  • 14.55 We are approaching our destination. #
  • 15.15 Now on the island. We’ve walked to a school ‘building’ and are singing with the children. A crowd is gathering. #
  • 15.30 Playing games with the children. There are a lot more people around now. #
  • 15.50 The Parable of the Prodigal Son. A Big Life evangelist is now preaching in Bengali. #
  • 16.20 This has been a shorter visit than normal because of our earlier problems and the rising tide. #
  • However, there was obvious genuine interest in the Gospel from these villagers, and many were praying with the Big Life Team as we finished. #
  • Big Life will be following up on this visit in the very near future. Now, we’re returning on the boat. #
  • The sun is shining on the water. Awesomely beautiful. #
  • 16.40 We’ve actually made another stop and we’re visiting another island. #
  • OK so I’m confused. This isn’t an island it’s the mainland and the cars have met us here (wherever this is). #
  • We’re being given chai tea before the return journey. #
  • 19.20 Finished the marathon journey back to BMS just in time for dinner, so we won’t upset Joseph. #
  • 19.30 Great news! Four people in the village we’ve just visited already want to be baptised. They will be baptised next Tuesday. #
  • 21.10 Team time is over, led by Paula. Are we prepared to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Jesus? #
  • We have been marvelling at the power of God at work in people’s lives through the simple sharing of the Good News of Jesus. #
  • Please pray for Pastor Benjamin and all at Big Life Ministries as they take the gospel to villages in N India & around the world #
  • Wow! What a great day! And although our time in Kolkata is limited we still have one more day. Until tomorrow . . . #

I didn’t know Ollie could do accents. He’s found where you’ve been hiding your Kindle then!

One really good thing about this fortnight has been seeing how many different people have signed in to comment on the blog. But I know for a fact that there are many of you out there who haven’t said a word so far, though you are faithfully looking up the page each day. Now is your last chance to show the team your support before they come home. Go on…say hello, show them how much you have been caring for them!! Let’s see if we can blow the record for the number of comments on a post on the FBC website?!

Sounds like you were on the boat for a long time – I don’t think I could have done that! Grandma says an Island has water all the way around it Dad! Can’t wait to see you on Saturday, and I’m really looking forward to all the amazing stories you will have to tell us and all the photos to show us when you get back! :)

Hi folks glad you had an amazing day with Big Life Ministires. Pastor Benjamin sure knows how to reach out for the Lord. So the team of FBC had a hectic day being part of God’s plan .

We pray tommorrow will go well & provide an opportunity to share God’s love for the poor.Have a great day.

As for us we are on holiday to Wales so God bless you all & have a safe trip home. We look forward to catching up later what happened on FBC website.

Above all we pray that the last 2 weeks will not be short run thing but many will want to keep up with what the Lord wants to do in Kolkata. To pray that the Lord will bring a new dawn to Kolkata and many will be saved & blessed.

Thank you for another wonderful day of tweets, great to hear all your news and the way in which God is at work in the lives of so many. Praying for the work of Big Life Ministries and their ongoing work when you return home. These last couple weeks seem to have flown by I don’t know if that’s so for you there but you have done and seen so much and witnessed the faith of these christians who materially have so little but overflow with love of the Lord Jesus. Truly an amazing experience and when which you will all remember for a long time. Have a safe journey back hope to hear finally from you tomorrow.
