‘Beyond 400’ is the name of this year’s Baptist Assembly, happening in London over the first weekend in May – 400 years after the first Baptist church on home soil began. The Assembly aims to explore what it means to be Baptist in today’s world and celebrate together 400 years of Baptist witness in the UK and beyond.

Beyond 400’ is also a new website which has been designed as a means of encouraging new thinking and widespread discussion regarding the future of Baptist life in the UK. Much change is inevitable due to a gaping whole in finances, but many are seeing this as a creative opportunity for an open conversation.

Those behind the site say: “We hope that prophetic hunches, helpful insights, and creative thinking will emerge as baptists imagine what might be next after 400 years in Britain”.

Fortypeople have been invited to write a short piece of no more than 700 words and the first contibution is online now.

This seems to me to be just what we need, so I do encourage you to read the contributions and join the conversation.
