BigRead12, Week 2: Echoes

Apparently the best laid plans of mice and men go oft astray . . . which is why this week’s post following Tuesday’s Church Night is rather late. We’re following the material from #BigRead12 and we’ve linked to some of the resources there.

This post should be a bit of a reminder of what we did, and an opportunity for those unable to come along on the night to join in. After all the clearing up from our ‘Ashes Confession’ on Sunday (see pic below at bottom of post), the week has run away with itself. And another confession. So good was the discussion on Tuesday evening that I forgot to take notes. So here are the bare bones of the session.

The title of this week’s session was Echoes, and based on the story of Jesus calming the storm. We heard from Tom Wright:

And then we read Mark 4:35-41

We talked together about the story and answered a few questions:

  1. When have you felt the same as the disciples in this passage?
  2. What echoes from the Old Testament do you see in Jesus’ life?
  3. What echoes from Jesus life do you see in your own?
  4. Why did Jesus calm the storm? What impact does this have on us today?

After this, we listened to Brian Draper’s reflection:

and then attempted to wrestle with another couple of questions:

Does God intervene in the storms of life today?
How can we echo Jesus’ life? What is possible/impossible?

If you were there, maybe you could remind? us of what we said by commenting below. If you couldn’t make it – it’s not too late to add your thoughts!

Next week: Expectations (Mark 7:1-13)
