2014: New Start

The New Year has begun. In our worship this morning we were thinking of New Starts and how God has given each of us a blank sheet of paper for the coming year:

Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new. God has done it all! (2 Corinthians 5:17-18)

Some of us shared verses that would be a challenge or inspiration for the new year. We were praying with God’s help to live up to them. Here are some of them. You may want to add your own!

Ephesians 4:31

Stop being mean, bad-tempered, and angry. Quarrelling, harsh words, and dislike of others should have no place in your lives.

Proverbs 15:1

A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Psalm 56:3

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.

Romans 16:19

Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I rejoice because of you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.

Ephesians 6:10-11

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

Psalm 4:4

Tremble and do not sin;
when you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent.

What about you?
