The Sign Of The Cross

Last Sunday FBC played host to one of two five-foot high crosses that are touring the country as part of an initiative designed to provide a focus for prayer Baptist churches.

It began back in May at this year’s Baptist Assembly and is due to continue until next year’s Assembly – a reminder that we seek to place Jesus at the centre of everything we do as a Baptist family.

General Secretary of the Baptist Union Lynn Green had the idea that the crosses could be sent around Baptist churches in the coming year as ‘a visible sign of our connectedness‘.

The two crosses have been travelling around the country from church to church, with names of churches visited added to those already there. Some are neatly printed and others are almost scribbled. Some are in bold marker pen and others in spidery biro.

During last Sunday’s service we used the cross as a centrepiece for prayers for our Baptist family near and far.  We added our name to the ever-growing list of churches as we celebrated being part of the big family of God.
